Amazing Grace (2006)
Watched by the AP United States History students of the 2013-2014 school year, this film tells the story of William Wilberforce as he tries to abolish the transatlantic slave trade in Great Britain during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
Band of Brothers (2001)
A TV- miniseries spanning ten episodes, this show focuses on the story of the Easy Company of the United States Army 101st Airborne Division during the Second World War. This loved series, scoring a 9.6 out of 10 on IMDB, depicts these brave men from Operation Overlord through V-J Day. The first episode was viewed by the 2013-2014 AP United States History students and this series is personally one that I hope to watch over the summer.
Becket (1964)
A true story dating back to the twelfth century, this film focuses around King Henry II and his old friend Thomas Becket. After Becket becomes the Archbishop of Canterbury, he takes his duty seriously and his friendship with the king is strained and this eventually leads to the tragic death of Becket. It's a pretty good movie, and it's available on Netflix!
The Bounty (1984)
Based on the book Captain Bligh and Mr. Christian by Richard Hough and an adaptation of the story of the mutiny on the Bounty, this film follows both Lieutenant Bligh, who is trying to get his loyalists to East Timor by way of lifeboat, and Fletcher Christian, who is attempting to get his men away from British punishments.
Braveheart (1995)
In this film, set during the thirteenth century, Scottish soldier William Wallace leads an army against the English King Edward III in the First War of Scottish Independence. Although historically innacurate in some regards, this epic war movie is popular and well-recieved by many.
El Cid (1961)
Eleventh-century Spain is divided into Christian and Moorish areas. Rodrigo Diaz de Bivar, known as El Cid by his followers, vows to see his country without the Moors and drives them from Spain.
GandHi (1982)
A dramatization of the life of Mohandas K. Ghandhi, this film tells the story of the famous Indian leader who led revolts against the British government by using nonviolence. Taking place from 1893 until his death in 1948, this film depicts fifty-five years of this hero's life in a way that touches many viewers.

Another movie familiar to the students of the AP United States History class of the 2013-2014 school year, this film takes place in the late 1800s during Japan's push towards modernization. After American officer and war veteran Nathan Algren is asked to train the Japanese Imperial Army, a chain of events lands him allied with the traditional samurai and their cause.
The Lion in Winter (1968)
In the twelfth century, King Henry II's sons all want a piece of the throne but the king will not choose favorites. His sons and his wife then begin to plot ways in order to force him to choose an heir.
Rob Roy (1995)
Taking place in Scotland in the 1700s, this film involves a man named Rob Roy who tries to help his town by borrowing money from nobles in order to purchase cattle. However, the money is stolen and Rob Roy is forced to steal from the rich in a Robin Hood-like fashion.
